French Toad in the Hole Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Large Ciabatta Loaf
- 10 Eggs
- 2 tablespoons Herbs de Provence
- 2/3 cups Milk
- Salt (To Taste)
- 3 tablespoons Butter (divided)
Directions
Prep Work
|
Step 1
|
Take the loaf of bread and slice it evenly about 3/4 of an inch thick. |
Step 2
|
Once the bread is sliced, use a biscuit cutter to make a hole in the center. You can leave the cut out piece in the bread for now. |
Step 3
|
Using a 9x12 baking dish, add 4 eggs, milk, and all but a couple pinches of the Herbs de Provence. Then wisk thoroughly. |
Step 4
|
Place the bread directly in the eggy mixture and let soak for about 30 minutes, then turn over for another 30 minutes. |
Cook Time
|
Step 5
|
Spray a nonstick skillet with cooking spray and heat it to a medium heat. Once it is hot place a slice or two of the bread (without the centers) in the pan, add a pinch of salt, and cook 4 minutes. |
Step 6
|
Flip the bread over and cook for another 3 minutes. |
Step 7
|
Melt a little of the butter in the hole. |
Step 8
|
Crack an egg in the hole. Season the top of the egg with a bit of salt and a pinch of the Herbs de Provence. Cook for 2 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes. |
Step 9
|
The center of the egg should still be runny, with the whites cooked through. |
